"Figs & Thistles" Oil Painting £450 Limited Edition Fine Art Prints Available

Figs & Thistles

This still life is interlaced with powerful symbolism. The figs represent wealth and abundance, but I specifically chose figs as they are fertilised by wasps, which are then consumed as the fig grows. I think they demonstrate beautifully the necessary imbalance at play where one person or demographic rises to engorge themselves, while consuming the other for their own purpose. The thistles represent the tenacity and fierceness needed to survive poverty. The fierce barbs are not a simple flourish, they are essential protection. When the two are thrown together the thistles would tear through the figs soft flesh. The hazelnuts are wrapped in a downy soft foliage, yet they are resiliant. A store of energy and the product of slow growth, they will out survive both, and sustain those careful enough to work hard and store for the future. The entire collection is on copper, not especially valuable, but practical, beautiful and conductive. The setting sun is the equalizer, a time we reflect on the true value of our days.

"Succulent" Oil Painting £450 Limited Edition Fine Art Prints Available

Succulent

This gorgeous succulent was on display at RHS Wisley in Guildford. I caught it at the peak of the day with the sun high above and the fresh water glistening, buoyant above the juicy rosette. I love the soft fleshy colours and the delicate powdery skin, which is prone to marking from even the slightest contact. It is unusual to see one in such perfect condition, and I knew right away I had to capture it's perfect pastel beauty. Painting the water droplets sitting whole on the surface of the plant was just a matter of patient observation, taking care of the little details to shape the whole transparency and glittering shine of the water in the bright sunlight.

"Mermaid Street" Oil Painting £450 SOLD Limited Edition Fine Art Prints Available

Mermaid Street

This painting of one of England's most iconic streets captures it's rustic charm and lush beauty.Central to the little Town of Rye, in East Sussex, the street sits perfectly aligned to capture the glow of both the rising and setting sun. Surrounded by marshland and within reach the salty sea breese, it's ancient damp beams are teeming with life. The soundscape in quiet times, filled with no more than the gulls, takes you back to days of pirates and battles, fires and adventures of old. Moss and ivy fill the spaces between weathered stone, alive and singing with history. The light is reflected in such an enchanting way, it appears almost cinematic. No wonder it is described as one of the most photographed streets in Britain.

Hydrangea II Oil Painting £850 Limited Edition Fine Art Prints Available

Hydrangia II

Oil on Canvas 100cm x 100cm. A Hydrangea's colour is determined by soil acidity, and this one is unusual, both in petal size and density. It also has intense and beautiful colour variation, the pale warm blue of a summer sky and violet hue like a shaded blush. Larger than usual petals also create a full and dense bloom.

Compassion. Oil On Canvas. SOLD. Limited Edition Fine Art Prints Available.

Compassion

Compassion is the variety name of this beautiful rose. It opens a pale pink, and darkens to fuchsia and terracotta in places with a soft yellow inside the nested petals. It has a glorious scent, and this is one I  grew in my own garden.
