Coombe Garden
Coombe Wood has an ornamental garden located on the southern side of Croydon which is beautifully planted, offering beautiful floral scenes changing throughout the seasons. This design is based on the Rhodedendron and Azalea blooms which fill the lower area of woodland, and where I have spent many hours enjoying the beauty of the carefully tended green space.
Peony Dream - Midnight
Hand drawn by Emma. Peonies are certainly beautiful enough to tempt the gods. They earned their name from Greek mythology. The stories vary, but in my favourite, a nymph named Paeonia, caught the eye of Apollo, so a jealous Aphrodite turned the nymph into a flower. In China and Japan, peonies mean ‘king of flowers’. And are used in big, important holidays like Chinese New Year and other important traditions. They are also known to symbolise wealth. This is because for a really long time they were available only to only Emperors. In Japan, they are used as a symbol of bravery, honour and good fortune. For me personally they symbolise beauty, kindness and love.
New Design - Jasmine
With their gorgeous fragrance and delicate blossoms, jasmine flowers symbolise love, respect and motherhood. The national flower of Pakistan, but grows in warm regions all over the world. This particular one I drew while travelling in The Canary Islands, I was quite taken both with the delicate flower and the vibrant foliage. I think it makes a beautiful nature themed design!
Bloom
Hand drawn by Emma. Timeless and sophisticated, the white peony has a chic, minimalist appeal. White peonies blush with subtle shades of pink and pearl. An elegant blossom that captures attention for the romantic beauty it bestows while filling any room with a subtle angelic scent. Symbolic of enduring beauty, the white peony is unmatched in its understated luxury. They naturally fall beautifully into bouquets, make great additions to windowsill arrangements in summery settings, and add a lovely contrasting touch to simple interiors.
Bird of Paradise
The iconic tropical flower, the Bird of Paradise originates from South Africa, where it is also nicknamed the Crane Flower. I found this one in Spain. Symbolising joy, faithfulness and paradise. It gets its name from the three bright orange petals and three blue petals which are fused together into a single bud, revealing as the flower blooms, the shape of a tropical bird in flight.
Sakura
Cherry blossom festivals are held in many parks and castle grounds across Japan, but their beauty is also celebrated in countries worldwide. Appearing in everything from traditional art and paintings to making a popular choice for wallpapers and even tattoos, these delicate, transient flowers have captured people’s hearts and imagination.
Opulence - Storm
Formed within the shell of a pearl oyster and highly prized as a gem, these luminescent treasures create a stunning effect alongside shimmering iridescent shells and diamonds. A truly extravagant design, yet with all the understated chic of a couture gown, this was worth every hour it took to draw. Adorn your home with bountiful treasures, and you will be delighted every day.
Valentine Powerpuff
Extravagant, rich, velvety Grand Prix roses with full blooms and packed petals designed in this seamless pattern by Emma to create an entire ocean of flowers to adorn your home or body. These gorgeous colours are chosen to inspire joy and encourage a little decadence. Go on, treat yourself! This detailed design took weeks to complete, but is such a delight to use. Some things are just worth the time.
Sorrento
Grown along the coast in the lemon groves of the Sorrento peninsula, these lemons are sweet, particularly juicy, and rounder then their Amalfi cousins. Dating back to the first century, the cultivation methods have changed very little in the last 2000 years. The peel is rich in essential oils, making it extremely fragrant. I think they look gorgeous against this sunny sky blue. Good enough to make your mouth water!
Mori
Hand drawn Pansies and Violas with little skulls inside for a quirky twist on a classic style. Gorgeous colours take centre stage with these little skull embellishments. These flowers are traditionally seen as symbols of love – both romantic and platonic. In Victorian times, pansies often represented forbidden love between secret lovers. They also symbolise qualities like compassion, remembrance, and nostalgia.
Hydrangea - Woodcote
Hand drawn by Emma. Fine grapes take their qualities from the soil and environment, as do hydrangea's. And they reward us with a stunning variety of colours in their big, beautiful blooms. Alkaline soil produces blues and lilacs, more acidic ground gives us warm violets and hot pinks. The colours also change throughout the life of the flower, from lime greens as the buds open to autumnal colours as it nears its end. They can also be dried and used as long lasting decorations. They really are an amazing and versatile bloom!
Trellis (Blush)
Inspired by Traditional English country style, these roses are reminiscent of the ones growing on the trellis in my grandmothers' cottage garden on the edge of Dartmoor. Bordering with neighbour Mr Satterly, who also grew beautiful flowers, his pride and joy. Influenced by our verdant countryside and classic English style, I stroll down memory lane, enjoying the precious moments of family long past. I can't help but find joy in what they treasured. Years never spoil the beauty of things made with love. These roses are reminiscent of the ones growing on the trellis in my grandmothers' cottage garden on the edge of Dartmoor.
