Diamond
April’s Diamonds are one of Mother Nature’s rarest and strongest creations, so have come to symbolise everlasting love. Formed under intense volcanic pressure and heat, they’re more than 3 billion years old. While the tradition of diamond engagement rings dates back all the way to Ancient Egypt, it was Archduke Maximilian of Austria who truly established them as a modern symbol of love when he proposed to Mary of Burgundy. Today, like Marilyn Monroe’s famous song, these legendary gems remain a girl’s best friend, and a true statement of everlasting love. I'm often asked how I get so much detail in these, and the answer is - every tiny facet is hand drawn and each colour chosen individually, to represent the cascade of light and colour present in a glittering polished gem stone. It’s a very time consuming process but I think the results are so worth it!

Sparkling with an internal fire all its own, diamond is one of the world’s most sought-after and adored gemstones. Those born in April are lucky enough to call this scintillating gem their birthstone, a symbol of clarity and strength. Diamond is so strong, in fact, that its name comes from the Greek word "adamas," which means “invincible” or “unbreakable.” Our love for the April birthstone started in India, where diamonds were gathered from the country’s rivers and streams. Traded as early as the fourth century BCE, diamonds were coveted by royalty and the wealthy. Later, caravans brought Indian diamonds, along with other exotic merchandise, to medieval markets in Venice. By the 1400s, diamonds were becoming fashionable accessories for Europe’s elite. The first diamond engagement ring on record was given by Archduke Maximillian of Austria to his betrothed, Mary of Burgundy, in 1477.
